I'm James Flatman
I am currently an A Level student at King's InterHigh, specialising in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Economics. Having been taught online throughout both GCSE and A Level, I possess a unique advantage as a tutor.
Navigating a curriculum with fewer traditional contact hours has allowed me to master the essential self-study skills, time management, and independent problem solving strategies, experience I am eager to pass on to my students. Developing these skills is crucial in ensuring they receive their desired grades.
When I'm not doing maths, I spend my free time doing film photography around Suffolk and London.

What I offer
- Tailored One-to-One Specification Coverage
Each 60-minute lesson is tailored to the student's weakest topics across the GCSE Maths and Further Maths specifications. We work methodically to close gaps in knowledge before exam day.
- Exam-Board-Aligned Strategy
We don't just learn theory; we apply it to realistic exam questions. Students learn how exam boards award marks using past papers, exam-board mark schemes, and examiner reports. We also develop clear working and effective time-management habits.
- Permanent Digital Resource Access
Every equation, diagram, and note we create on the interactive whiteboard is saved. Students receive permanent access, building an organised revision library they can return to at any time.
- Continuous Between-Lesson Support in Tiers 2 & 3
Learning shouldn't stop when the lesson ends. If a student gets stuck on homework or a past-paper question during the week, they can email me for guidance.
Currently, I only teach GCSE Maths and Further Maths, however next year I plan on offering to teach A Level Maths.
How it works
- Free 15-Minute Consultation
A brief introductory call to discuss the student's current progress and target grades. We will also cover their exam board (Edexcel, AQA, OCR, etc.), the equipment needed, and the available tuition plans. There will be time for any questions. The call also gives us a chance to get to know each other and decide whether the tuition approach is a good fit.
- Simple Booking
Once you decide to move forward, you will receive a personal booking link. Lessons must be booked and paid for at least 24 hours in advance to secure the slot.
- Interactive Lessons
Lessons take place on Google Meet alongside an interactive online whiteboard, such as Figma or Whiteboard.fi. I can add exam questions during the lesson and see the student's working in real time. This lets me give accurate guidance as they work.
- Structured one-hour lessons
Each lesson is usually split equally between teaching core content and practising targeted exam questions. If we are working through a difficult problem when the lesson ends, we will finish it even if we run slightly over.
- Hardware Recommendation
Typing mathematics is inefficient, so I recommend a basic drawing tablet and stylus. Suitable models are available on Amazon for around £25–£30. This lets students write naturally on the whiteboard and make the most of their lesson time.
